Chatting with Al Gore and Jim Hightower at Netroots Nation

Posted by Kate Sheppard at 10:11 AM on 21 Jul 2008

Our partners at ReGeneration.org were able to snag a few quick interviews with notable Netroots Nation attendees Al Gore and former Texas Agriculture Commissioner, author, radio host, and activist Jim Hightower.

Here's what Gore had to say about why climate and environment action should be a bipartisan effort:

And here's Hightower on what should be done about rising energy costs:

Gore, Hightower observe public transit blackout.

Anything except public transportation. That is the rule. You will not see high-profile figures breaking this carbon-auto lobby gag order. The tariff [fare] on our public investment in public transportation is restraint of trade. Its purpose is to discourage use. Transit fares benefit the carbon-auto industry and hurt all other business and citizens by promoting sprawl, congestion, and waste. We need free public transit.
