On tar sands, oil shale, the like, and global warming:

"If we use unconventional fossil fuels then there's no hope."

On the Bush-McCain plan for offshore oil drilling:

"It's just a crazy thing to do."

-- Dr. James Hansen, speaking at a National Press Club luncheon, which honored him and commemorated the 20th anniversary of the landmark 1988 Senate hearing on global warming.

Hansen on energy

I agree with this, but generally Hansen should stick to what he knows, climate.  Until he gets up to speed on renewable energy and conservatiion.

I believe he has touted "clean" coal CCS.  Did he repeat the nuclear false dilemna fallacy too?  It's nukes or GHG armageddon?  How about ethanol?

Influential voices like his should be better informed on energy, since their high profile gives them an inside track to advising our leaders.

James Hansen and why no one listens to him

Take a deep breath everyone.  I'm giving you all an "F-" for for your ability to reason.

Hansen takes only a couple sentences to utterly destroy his own credibility.  (http://www.columbia.edu/~jeh1/)

10 years after graduating with a PhD from Iowa, Dr. Hansen (around 1976) finally realized that no one bothered to read his publications - until he starting writing about global warming.  Clearly he's made a ton of money off it since then.

Worse, he makes the comment "The hardest part is trying to influence the nature of the measurements obtained, so that the key information can be obtained."  TRYING TO INFLUENCE THE NATURE OF THE MEASUREMENTS OBTAINED???  Wow.  This guy is the least-qualified most biased prejudiced  'scientist' I've ever seen.

James, the entire point of the scientific method is to MINIMIZE your influence on the measurements.  You are hell-bent on fitting the data to your pre-existing theory, rather than the other way around.

C'mon guys, do something more important with your lives.  None of us will be here in 100 years - but the Earth will.

It's not the end of the world, it's just the end of YOU.
