Gore at the right time

America's climate guru issues statement of support for America's Climate Security Act

Muckraker: Grist on PoliticsSen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) is pretty jazzed about this statement of support for the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act that Al Gore released today:

I want to commend Senator Boxer for her leadership of the Environment and Public Works Committee. Thanks to her vision and dedication, we have the first global warming bill in history that is comprehensive, bipartisan and that enjoys support across the country -- from labor and agriculture to the business and the environmental communities. Of course the bill needs to be stronger, but it's vital that Congress begin to act. While it's important that people change their light bulbs, it's even more important that we change the laws.

Of course, Gore notes that the bill "needs to be stronger" -- which Boxer herself says, too. But his support is big news for the bill's sponsors.

Gore Hard To Take Seriously

Anyone who advocates changing light bulbs -- to one with the poison mercury, no less! -- and lives in a mansion that consumes a huge amount of energy and takes up space that should be occupied by other species has little environmental credibility.  While Al Gore writes books and makes movies, he doesn't practice what he preaches.  While he was vice president, he did absolutely nothing for the environment, despite the huge bully pulpit he had available.
