The Vulcan Project

A high-resolution map of U.S. CO2 emissions

Check out the Vulcan Project out of Purdue University (with funding from NASA and DOE). It's an attempt to quantify and visually represent U.S. CO2 emissions over time:

Here's a nifty video introduction:

Less for Some, More for Others?

I don't know if I'm reading this right:

http://www.purdue.edu/eas/carbon/vulcan/analysis.html

But I think it's comparing 2002 CO2 data (their own) with a 1998 study.

The map shows the difference.   Oddly, the entire West Coast shows a vast decrease.

Whereas the Southeast shows an increase.

Don't know how the AGWers interpret this for the stabilizing temperatures during the 1999-2008 period...

Not sure...

Not sure what they mean by "annual" either, if it's just one year or on a multi-year scale, but..

It says:

*Brenkert, A.L., Carbon dioxide emission estimates from fossil-fuel burning, hydraulic cement production, and gas flaring for 1995 on a one degree grid cell basis (http://cdiac.esd.ornl.gov/ndps/ndp058a.html), 1998.

So it may be a comparison between 1995 and 1998?

Talk about a continental divide...
