Virginia's State Corporation Commission today rejected American Electric Power's request to build a massive ($2.23b) new dirty coal plant in West Virginia. Why, you ask?

The commission said the plant's estimated price, which dates back to November 2006, isn't credible. It also said AEP has no plans to provide a detailed, updated estimate until it gets full regulatory approval.

So picky!

Great news

It seems like the message that coal is not only a bad deal for our planet but also a bad deal for our economy is finally starting to catch on. And frankly people still care more about the economy. Once we are winning both arguments we will see more and more coal plants being rejected. But the fact that any coal planets are getting build is a bad thing.

We still have work to do.

So Much for Cheap Clean Coal

Now if they would only stop blowing up thier mountains and pushing them over into pristine valley's and covering up fresh water streams.

Level Headed thinking from a Mountain State that is almost level....

The eons of time and nature was good to us down here. It was not until we become civilized that destroying our habitat become fathomable or fashionable.

I'm confused

The plant is in WV, but was rejected by VA.  Presumably, there is some agreement to share power between the states, and I could imagine a scenario wherein both states would have to approve.  But does this mean that if they change the contracts to keep the power in WV they could still go forward?  (I believe this plant has already been approved by regulators in that state.)

Does anyone know the details?
