New across the transom, from Sierra Club (no link yet):

Today, Associated Electric Cooperative, one of the nation's largest and most respected rural electric cooperatives announced they are "postponing indefinitely" their plans to build a massive new coal-fired power plant near Norborne in Northwest Missouri. Associated Electric will pursue wind, energy efficiency and natural gas instead.

Sweet.

Yes, that IS sweet

Will the reverberations from this be felt in the ongoing Holcomb battle in Topeka? How can Kansas be smack dab in the middle of the country, yet seem so isolated?

Emissions Permits

In the ongoing debate over how to allocate emissions permits, I certainly would support the notion that any coal power plant that hadn't received it's construction permits prior to Dec 11, 1997 (Kyoto agreement) should not be allocated any free permits... or at least only permits equaling what an efficient gas combined cycle would have required.

Any company, cooperative or municipal utility deciding to build coal plants after it was obvious caps would happen should have to sleep in the bed they made.
