Dear children of the '80s,

Captain PlanetI heard a rumor last week that Warner Bros. studio had announced a live-action film version of the '90s cartoon series Captain Planet and was planning to release it in late 2009.

Captain Planet, you say? Why, he's our hero! (Wasn't he gonna take pollution down to zero?)

Sadly, though, I must report that I then contacted the Warner folks (and their bros) and found out that this rumor is, in fact, "untrue."

I know, I know. I too am crushed. But before you get your superhero-tights in a bunch, consider this: perhaps by our powers combined we could petition them to reconsider?

Planeteerly,
Sarah

True story

I was working a table at an environmental meeting last summer when the guy who did the voice of Captain Planet stopped by. He chatted us up for a few minutes.

Just as he turned to leave, he turned back, melodramatically pointed at us, and said in the Captain Planet voice, "The power is YOURS!" High comedy.

"Robot Chicken"??

What is it about action figures who paint themselves blue that makes my heart skip a beat ? ...

And from the same source, another not unremarkable cartoon:

Chickens deserve our true friendship! So do fish! So do other sentient beings! Let us learn to be kind.

Funny robot chicken clip!

Can we get Bucky Fuller as the secret leader of the team, working from his cryogenic freezer in an underground bunker in Antarctica?

This Capn planet thing just needs a rewrite.  Rev up the blog and it's a done deal.

I'm planeteering up at the news

I helped my high school ecology club film a blue-painted, green-mulleted Captain Planet fly across a cafeteria table on wheels...all in the name of promoting the new recycling efforts in the cafeteria. Low budget, perhaps, but I like to think it got the message across:

"We're the Planeteers
You can be one too
'Cause saving our planet is the thing to do!"

But apparently making a movie about saving the planet isn't the thing to do for Warner Bros.

Perhaps I could round up that old tape and send it off as part of a petition to Hollywood?

He's a hero...

That's hilarious.  And at the same time, I'm jealous of you for actually meeting Captain Planet.  ;-)

I used to love that show...

...I begged my parents to let me join the Save the Manatee Foundation after I saw that one cartoon where he saved all the cute aquatic critters.  I remain a member to this day.

cries...

I was so excited, I wish I had only read the headline and not the whole article! I was so excited to go see the movie! I was thinking of who's kids I could borrow so that people didn't give me bad looks for going to a kids movie.
