A Gore-aphobia

Posted by David Roberts at 5:05 PM on 03 Feb 2008

The OMFG WILL GORE ENDORSE NOW?! stories are getting almost as tiresome as the OMFG WILL GORE RUN NOW?! stories got. One of the sillier aspects of the Silly Season, I guess. Noam Scheiber speculates why Gore might keep waiting, despite the many people begging him to enter the fray.

Probably because

There isn't much difference between the two remaining democratic candidates.

And the endorsement can be saved until later in the general election, where it will generate more buzz.

Candidates should endorse Gore

Gore endorses the platform of stopping global warming. He has had remarkable success with all democrats and even republicans talking about it. Why endorse when they all kiss his ass anyway? Any candidate that wants to really solve global warming can get an endorsement by saying that they endorse the great work of Al Gore. It is different now for Gore than it was in 2004, he is hardly a politician and more of a celebrity. Celebrities don't have to endorse anyone ever.

Endorsement ==> Edwards

I suggested to MoveOn -- who sent a mailer asking me which one (Hillary or Barack) they should endorse --- that this would be the perfect chance to play it smart by endorsing Edwards.

  1. You don't irritate either of the two likely nominees by needlessly endorsing in a primary where you're already known to be in the bag for whichever one takes it

  2. You tell them that to get your support, they need to take positions like Edwards did.

MoveOn wasn't smart enough; Gore certainly should be.
