Trippin' Lutz

General Motors vice chair is not a climate-change believer

Posted by Sarah K. Burkhalter at 11:42 AM on 14 Feb 2008

General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz is not only cranky, but willfully ignorant: D Magazine reports that Lutz declared to journalists that global warming is a "total crock of shit."

What a surprise

Maybe this shows why the "Volt" is only a commercial.

While Audi has a real plugin hybrid, and Toyota even has a 962 pound plugin hybrid hypercar with comparable size and performance to the Prius.  Show car so far.

How did that record loss happen GM shareholders?  Can shareholders call for replacement of management?  is this still america, do those who own the company still have some input into how it's being run...into the ground.

A 1991 GMC Sierra pickup here in Wisconsin just hit 1 million miles and still humming along.  what happened GM?  What was good for you used to be what was good for US.

Don't pay any attention...

...to the loser that heads the company that makes inferior products with less efficiency, worse safety ratings, more maintenance intensive, shorter life-spans that still cost more than the ones made by superior competition that treats its workforce better.

Gee, and they wonder why GM is losin' so much money.

GM 38billion loss

Where are all those great electric cars from Toyota and Audi? Hey, it's quite obvious you don't like GM. I find it strange Americans would invent stories only to glorify the foreign companies. Or maybe those people are not Americans, at least that's what I would like to think.
The 38 billion dollar loss comes from a tax write-off that GM is using for the money transfer to the UAW for health care. If you want to get your facts straight and at the same time read about the Volt.

Volt...a greenwash Amoneyican dream...

...the Volt has been in "reasearch" stage for over a decade now (in various forms and names).  No other car in GM history has taken so long to reach mass production...and Volt isn't even in mass production.  They're spendin' millions to advertise for a car that's not gonna be out on the market for at least a few more YEARS, if even then.  It's greenwashin', pure and simple.

Yes, the concepts behind the volt are sound...but they don't do anything with those concepts unless they actually mass manufacture the car...which they don't.

Check your facts...GM consistently rates lower overall in saftey, lifespan, maintenance, and fuel efficiency than many of their competitors.  Yet their vehicles are still more expensive than many of their competitors, despite the fact that many of their competitors give their workers better wages and health benefits.

I'm not gonna go out and buy a car from a company just 'cause the company is "American", if there's a better option out there, even if it isn't "American".

After all the cars made by this "American" car company pollute more of America, kill more Americans in crashes, and cost Americans more money for their vehicles and in government subsidies.

They're not American.  They're Amoneyicans.  If they truly believed in the spirit of America, then they would follow the example of the foreign car companies and create vehicles that would protect Americans better in crashes, emit less pollution for Americans to inhale, and treat the American workers with the same health benefits that their foreign competitors do.

GM dislike

I mentioned the million mile GMC pickup.  I was loyal to GM products until only a few years ago, around when they killed their electyric car.

Lutz has some crazy limboob related aversion to science and reality, and it is destroying GM.  Is that not a reason for shareholders to call for his ouster?

Are you a commie?  Do you nor believe in property rights?  GM shareholders own GM, Lutz is eliminating it's value and the value of their shares.  Don't they have rights?  To do anything about it?

I want GM leading the world with plugin hybrids.  I want the US manufacturing and job base restored.  When will someone step in and stop this fiasco that is present Detroit boardroom and head office leadership.

These idiotic farts need to step aside and let someone save a great american industry.

Let the foreigners do it!...

These idiotic farts need to step aside and let someone save a great american industry.

Yeah!  Like the Japanese, or the Koreans!  They'll save our auto industry! ;)

Now I Know I Want A GM

Ok, that seals the deal.

My 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix was pronounced beyond repair and so I will do the automotive equivalent of euthanasia by donating it to Northwest Center.

Its replacement was undecided until now.   Bob Lutz, you are the only truth teller in the public sphere.  My next car will be --- another GM car!  (Used of course, and maybe a little newer...I might even go compact...to a Grand AM that is...)

That's the problem

Lutz appeals to a very marginal demographic.  Thus GM's huge losses due to his POV.

He refuses to view GHG climate problems seriuosly so he killed the GM electric car.  Will he actually manufacture the "Volt"?  No way to tell.

So consumers flock to toyota, the company that gives the vast majority of customers the more efficient, cheaper to power, greener transportation they want.

Lutz should start his own gas guzzler auto company, to preserve the guzzle lifestyle!  Instead of using other people's money, in those stock shares in GM, to further his demented vision.

He's like an old style commisar in soviet industry.  Stalin got angry and had all but one of his jet aircraft development team murdered during WW 2.  GM needs someone less Stalinesque at the helm than Lutz.

The "Troll"

Lutz could call his new auto the "Troll".  In honor of his demographic.

Let's see, instead of a battery it would have a nuclear thermocouple generating device, the kind that power satelites.

The motor could be a 12 cylinder ethanol/gasoline flex fuel model.  The envirionmental concession.

What other features would the "Troll" include?

Heh!

I would buy an "american" car if they were competitive in the areas I'm interested in, mpg, durability, safety, price, etc.

Sadly this is not the case so I send money overseas. If/when GM fires that assclown and retracks with modern consumers, then I'll reconsider, of course. And since my preference is to buy american GM would only have to match, not beat, their competitors!

The Year Without a Summer

The year 1816 was famous as "the year without a summer." That year started out, in Stanley, SC as well as other regions of the south, so mild for the months of January and February that many folks let their fires go out and burned wood only for cooking; however, March was very cold and windy. Showers started the Month of April but ended with snow and ice. In May the temperature was like that of winter. The young buds that began forming in April were stiff and frozen. Ice, one half inch thick formed on ponds and rivers in North and South Carolina. Corn was killed and after being planted again and again nothing was reaped from the cornfields. June was cold, the coldest month ever experienced in this latitude. Almost all green things as well as fruits were killed. There was ice, frost, and some snow flurries in July. August proved to be the worst month of all not only here but even in Europe. September started out with two weeks of pleasant weather and the rest of the month was cold. October and November were extremely cold and then December was mild. This extraordinary weather condition in 1816 had been caused by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Temboro in the Dutch East Indies, blowing 50 cubic miles of dust into the air and killing some 66,000 people. The volcanic dust clouded the skies all over the earth causing doom and gloom and the "year without a summer."
