Writing about Mooney, writing about storms

Posted by Kate Sheppard at 4:28 PM on 10 Aug 2007

I reviewed Chris Mooney's new book, Storm World: Hurricanes, Politics, and the Battle Over Global Warming, for The American Prospect, and it's up today. Gristmiller Kit Stolz reviewed it here a while ago, but uh, mine is ... longer.

Anyway, the book is good, though not the galvanizing polemic that made his first book, The Republican War on Science, a bestseller. But Mooney's got quite the knack for telling the back story on how science and politics became friends with benefits here in the U.S.

Wow Kate, Excellent

That was perhaps one of the better, more nuanced book reviews on an environmental topic I've read in a long time.  I reveled in the notion that it was NOT political like the author's previous tome.  I loved how you brought the empirical Gray in contrast to the modeler Emmanuel as a battle of wills and ego, as well as to merely even suggest that Global Warming policy wonks have not done such a hot job on their explanations.  Thanks Kate.

Oh, here's an interesting factoid:  both the empirical and modeling weenies are still predicting 13-15 named storms for the 2007 hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin.  Cool huh?

Onward through the fog
