Re-vamp New Hamp(shire)

Marching for climate action in the Granite State

Posted by Kate Sheppard at 3:54 PM on 24 Jul 2007

reenergizeRemember all that hubbub about Step it Up? Though we haven't heard much about it since the successful event back in April, in many communities across America, the momentum continues. As part of the fallout, groups are working to "reenergize" communities with more actions and events, especially in states that will play a big role in deciding who the presidential nominees will be.

This week, we heard from friends in New Hampshire about their upcoming "March to ReEnergize New Hampshire," which will take place August 1-5 in the Granite State:

We're convinced that the March to ReEnergize New Hampshire will focus attention in the right direction. This year, New Hampshire citizens have already shown grassroots support for cutting carbon, organizing 21 Step it Up rallies and passing 164 town hall Climate Change Resolutions. Now with the nation's first primary election, all eyes are on this small corner state. All we need to do is put global warming solutions in the line of vision.

So New Hampshire dwellers (New Hampshirites? New Hampies?) will be marching from Nashua to Concord during the first week of August to call attention to the continued need for strong federal climate legislation. College students, senior citizens, enviros, politicians, and even Grist contributor Bill McKibben will be uniting for the cause, asking representatives to cut carbon emissions 80 percent by 2050. Visit their site to learn how to get in on the marching action. And check out their video:
