China to West: You must be kidding

Accuses us of 'green imperialism'

Posted by David Roberts at 11:00 AM on 26 Jun 2007

More or less echoing what I said here, China is telling the West to shove its climate hectoring where the sun don't shine:

Asian business and government leaders have accused rich countries of hypocrisy, saying they run polluting industries with cheap labour in China and then blame the country for worsening climate change.

"This is green imperialism," Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Malaysia's deputy finance minister, told a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum on east Asia, a two-day conference in Singapore.

A Chinese aviation tycoon told the forum that the west was the original polluter, while an American businessman noted that Asia's energy consumption is relatively disproportionate to its contribution to the world economy.

Honestly, can anyone argue these points? The West has developed based on fossil fuels, and in the latter part of that development, exported its dirtiest industries to China. Now it's nagging China about greenhouse gas emissions? It really is galling. Happily, the folks at this forum seem less belligerent in this situation than, say, Americans would be if the situation were reversed:

But all participants agreed that instead of apportioning blame, the problem should be solved internationally and with private sector participation.

Global Warming????

Global Warming????

Recent research by Henrik Svensmark and his group at the Danish National
Space Center points to the real cause of the recent warming trend. In a
series of experiments on the formation of clouds, these scientists have
shown that fluctuations in the Sun's output cause the observed changes in the
Earth's temperature.

In the past, scientists believed the fluctuations in the Sun's output were
too small to cause the observed amount of temperature change, hence the need
to look for other causes like carbon dioxide. However, these new
experiments show that fluctuations in the Sun's output are in fact large
enough, so there is no longer a need to resort to carbon dioxide as the
cause of the recent warming trend.

The discovery of the real cause of the recent increase in the Earth's
temperature is indeed a convenient truth.  It means humans are not to blame
for the increase.  It also means there is absolutely nothing we can, much
less do, to correct the situation.

As for Svensmark, 4th time around, maybe he won't be commiting outright data fraud this time?

Switching Focus

The Chinese Communist Party has been very tactical in changing the foci of serious problems.

When they are the worst in terms of hardcore toxic air pollution, injuring the health of all Chinese and all neighbouring countries, they start talking more about carbon dioxide (especially the Kyoto), which is nothing more than a non-toxic greenhouse gas.

When they are the worst in emitting carbon dioxide, they start to talk about the population in China, knowing that 95+% of Chinese do not own air conditioners and hence do not produce any significant carbon dioxide at all.

When the West starts to impose pollution tax, they argue the oppose. Let the West pay for them, the polluter, to stop polluting!

Folks, by the way, there are many ways to reduce air pollution in China. It is corruption, collusions with evil business, lack of education, and the good old "free-rider" effect that have progressively increased air pollution in China and the world.

Air pollutants toxic and non-toxic can be filtered. It is a matter of cost. Why should all consumers subsidize big corporations such as Walmart who purposely chooses the most polluting country to produce at the lowest cost to earn the highest profit, which eventually leads to intolerable pollution in the world?

Two solutions:

  1. Tax evil Walmart for choosing the most polluting country to make its products.

  2. Tax the evil Chinese Communist Party who purposely do not or dysfunctionally fails to  control air pollution.

By the way, it is not the U.S. against China; it is evil businesses and the evil Chinese Communist Party against all consumers (i.e., you and me) in the world!

China's primary concern

In terms of what China wants, it is mainly based on increasing power demands and control of airborne ozone, particulate, sulfur dioxide, and toxics, not to mention some truly devastating water pollution.  They may have not developed to a stage of national conscience where carbon dioxide is a priority.  It is that simple.

And's let's not blame the central government of China or its commie party, since those views are held by many Oriental countries outside of Japan.

Interesting thought though, that Wal-Mart, Cosco, Home Depot, and other major importing companies to the US from the Orient (mainly via Port of LA and Long Beach) ... should be respnosible for a portion of the CO2 that is caused by their transactions, production through final delivery F.O.B.

Hehe, interesting concept, no?

Onward through the fog

Don't Blame the Chinese Communist Party; blame ME!

"And's let's not blame the central government of China or its commie party, since those views are held by many Oriental countries outside of Japan."

Let's not blame the central government in China? So, you blame all Chinese for that? As I have said, 95% of Chinese in China are not responsible for any significant pollution in China. So, you blame the 5% of Chinese?

Do you know the electricity consumption level of the 5% of Chinese you are blaming? It can't even compare to New York City alone!

You ask a farmer to be conscious about air pollution? Come on. What for? So, whose consciousness are you talking about? Chinese   consumers? They are not significant either.

As I have said repeatly, the culprits are:

(1) The Chinese Communist party members (70.8 million of them as of 2005; I am sure some of them are driving polluting nice car enjoying A/C everyday)
http://www.chinatoday.com/org/cpc/

(2) Evil corporations and power plants.

Be reminded that (1) and (2) are not mutually exclusive. That is, some evil corporations are either run by members of the Chinese Communist Party or have paid huge amounts of bribe money to members of the Chinese Communist Party to pollute "illegally" but without any punishment in China.

You blame neither of them. The problem goes on and becomes uncontrollable cause (1) and (2) are the TRUE free-riders of air pollution.
