Climate change as national security threat

Yeah or nay?

Posted by David Roberts at 1:58 PM on 14 May 2007

Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) thinks it's silly to use intelligence resources to assess the national security implications of climate change, or as he calls it, the "bugs and bunnies."

Meanwhile, Michael McConnell -- the U.S. Director of National Intelligence -- thinks it's "entirely appropriate."

Who to trust?

Pete Hoekstra

Hmmm... perhaps there should be an investigation into Pete Hoekstra's activities. If he is not FOR national security, he must be against it. Which means he must be an Al Qeda operative. Is he trying to weaken U.S. security for his little terrorist friends? Is that what he's up to. I have one question for him... Why, Pete Hoekstra, do you hate America?

9/11 changed everything

Perhaps Pete Hoekstra has forgotten about an event called 9/11. The U.S. must treat EVERY national security threat as a serious matter. At least there is evidence for Global Climate Change -- vs. Iraq's WMDs. Pete Hoekstra must have been among those who scoffed at the possibility of civilian jets being used as weapons. Now he dares scoff at other threats, practically inviting God Almighty to send us another warning for... whatever it was He was trying to warn us about. If Pete Hoekstra is not for us, he must be against us. Someone notify the President.

And while we're at it, why does he hate bunnies?

And why does he hate bugs?

Someone really needs to explain to Pete Hoekstra the importance of bugs in our environment.

Hmmm... if he hates bugs, he must hate bees. And if he hates bees, he must hate apples! Pete Hoekstra not only hates America. HE HATES APPLE PIE! What a godless heathen he must be.

Wall Street Journal

Has anyone been noticing

  1. The ammount of climate skeptics getting heard on the Wall Street Journal
  2. Rupert Murdoch (guy who owns FOX) wants to buy the Wall Street Journal

Careful there

Reading your equation there, Grey, I was reminded of something I just read in the new book "The Grid:"
all the old power plants in the USSR had big carved exhortations to the masses saying

"Communism is Soviet Power plus Complete National Electrification!" -- VI Lenin
