Chip on NOW

PBS interviews them some Grist

Posted by David Roberts at 7:48 AM on 14 May 2007

Here's Grist Supreme Leader Chip Giller on PBS' Now:

Fads come and fads go

but some fads make it to meme status. I suspect that low fertility rates are an example of one. Let's hope envrionmentalism makes the transition.

Chip made a couple of points that stood out for me:

  1. The religionist/environmentalist analogy.
  2. Guys toting bags of garbage around have a tough time getting dates.
  3. What you do as an environmentalist has exponentially greater value if what you do is something that others want to emulate.

This was great. Chip did a fine job. He and Dave are a dynamic duo. I just hope they don't start wearing green tights.

In the end, it all comes down to biodiversity. Poison Darts--Protecting the biodiversity of our world
"toting bags of garbage" indeed!

Interesting, BioD, how you interpreted the interview by your own lights.

What stood out for me was how purposefully and intentionally non-aggressive, non-threatening, non-challenging Chip was.  It was totally up to that vain prima-donna Dave Brancaccio to splash around a bit of color.

Anyway, whatever we make of Subcomandante Chipo's performance, it is fascinating to observe that there are apparently all kinds of people out there reading Grist and Gristmill, who do little or nothing to make their presence known.  How in the world are we to interpret that?  Good?; bad?; indifferent?; I'm-feeling-lucky?

Chickens deserve our true friendship! So do fish! So do other sentient beings! Let us learn to be kind.

True, Canis

Item 3 was a stretch, based on the fact that carrying a garbage bag around never caught on. However, items 1 and 2 were "almost" verbatim.

In the end, it all comes down to biodiversity. Poison Darts--Protecting the biodiversity of our world
I hear echoes of Grist in MSM, Kudos Chip!

We older folks like grist too!

I'm thrilled that 20 and 30 somethings flock to grist.  Please don't forget the parents and grandparents.  Maybe AARP will go "green" with a little influence (direct or indirect) from grist.

Great job Chip.
