A note about sources

Where to find green news

Posted by David Roberts at 6:06 PM on 01 Apr 2007

Lately I've been feeling guilty about the fact that I frequently fail to cite where I find the links and articles I blog about. (Adding a "via so and so" or "hat tip: such and such" is good blog etiquette.) It's not deliberate, it's just that by the time I get around to blogging on an article that's been sitting in my browser as an open tab, I often can't remember what tipped me off to it.

So let me just put in a generic plug for three aggregators I can't live without:

I have no idea how I blogged about energy and climate issues before these folks were around. If you read about something on Gristmill and I don't mention where I found it, chances are I found it at one of those three sources. Bookmark/subscribe accordingly.

Got sources and aggregators you like? Give them a shout out in comments.

time for spumoni

"Energy and climate issues" are not 100% of what we all care about, you know, dear DR.

In order to become an ever better environmentalist news blog (mein Gott?!, warum dieses Kompetitionismus?!), just relax, you have done enough in this regard.

I think you all need a break, and need to sit back and refresh yourselves.  How about a brisk biking tour out to the Makah reservation and back: what a bonding experience that would be!

OK, so, bad idea.  But, still, don't you think it is OK sometimes to be menos intenso?  Just sit back, with your riverside (or dockside; whatever) spumoni and prosecco, as you tearfully watch the endangered salmon being attacked and eaten by the less endangered sea lions?

Well, sure, there is a conflict of emotions.  But that is what art is for.  And blogs cannot hope to reach that deep.

Chickens deserve our true friendship! So do fish! So do other sentient beings! Let us learn to be kind.

Intenso!

Thanks for mentioning Energy Bulletin, David. Words like that keep us going.

Caniscandida: "don't you think it is OK sometimes to be menos intenso?"

Have you been talking to my wife, CC? There is much truth in what you say. This is going to be project of long duration; we have to pace ourselves.

GPM!

Greetings all- at Bart's suggestion I've created an account for Global Public Media, an initiative of Post Carbon Institute. David, I agree that Energy Bulletin is indispensable. I can't visit it more than weekly, otherwise I spend every waking hour link-hopping!

I started working for GPM back in 2004 because they were an excellent source for longform media (audio and video) as well as op-ed pieces specifically related to peak oil. The recent addition of Richard Bell in Washington DC as Post Carbon Institute's Communications Director also provides us an immediate and insightful look into the climate change deliberations that have been happening of late on the hill.

Cheers!

I also check academic sites.  In addition to the class

Professor Tad W. Patzek

Professor Patzek is probably best known for his biofuel
publications and statements - and more recently, his opposition
to the BP/Berkeley deal - but he has many interests.  Here
are recent examples:

Once in a while I check Dr. Steven Best's website.

Steve Best is Associate Professor of Humanities and Philosophy at
the University of Texas, El Paso. He focuses on philosophy,
social and political theory, cultural studies, science and technology studies,
animal rights, and environmentalism

I don't know what to make of the hundreds of snapshots of himself Steve
Best has on his site but some of the articles are interesting and informative.
