Listen
Play "Tiny Spiders," by Wussy

I only heard about this band, Wussy, a few weeks ago, but I'm enjoying the hell out of them. It's a nice mix of alt country twang and fuzzy, Sonic Youthy drone rock. The song is called "Jonah" and the album's called Left for Dead, but, er, looking now I see it doesn't actually come out until Jan. 8. So consider this a preview, and tide yourself over with their first album, Funeral Dress, which I haven't heard but I bet is good too.

Another great band

If you like these guys (based on that one track, anyway), definitely check out Okkervil River.  I've been following these guys for quite a while and your description of Wussy struck me as similar to the way I might describe Okkervil - somewhere between indie rock and familiar Americana, with a dash of great storytelling.  Give their newest album a spin (or any of them, really) and then I'll dare you to tell me you don't agree.

Organicmatter,

I'm way ahead of you. Okkervil's latest is one of my top two or three albums of 2007.

You might browse back through the Friday Music Blogging archives. You might find other stuff you like. And of course if you find things in the same vein you think I'd like, feel free to email me suggestions!
