As I reported last summer, mtvU, MTV's 24-hour college network, and GE buddied up to get students to "green" their campuses. The resulting mtvU GE ecomagination Challenge brought in over 100 entries from university campuses across the country.

The top ten projects were announced this week, and the student finalists are now counting on you (yes, you!) to vote for your favorites. The votes, along with input from mtvU and GE, will determine which project will emerge victorious in March.

And what will the winners get, you ask, aside from, of course, bragging rights and a warm-fuzzy feeling of do-goodery? A $25,000 grant to bring the project to life and an mtvU Earth Day Concert at their school with a performance by Angels and Airwaves (the alt-rock band fronted by Blink-182's Tom DeLonge -- but you knew that already because you're totally "with it").

Projects range from a solar-powered trash and recycling compactor at the University of Maryland to green roofs at the University of Michigan to the relatively simplistic stationary-bike-powered energy generator at the University of Massachusetts.

So get to voting -- the winning team will appreciate it (though let's not forget everyone's a winner, blah, blah, blah). And while you're at it, check out what other campuses have already done to make an eco-difference.
