Red state penetration

The Courier-Journal (of all papers) out of Louisville, Ky. (of all places), is running a wide-ranging, in-depth look at global warming.

Kudos, Kentucky!

The Courier-Journal's series includes this poll question:

Do you think it is time for government to require reductions in emissions from power plants, automobiles and other sources that contribute to global warming?

As of this posting, 78.6% say "yes."

Louisville paper's warming piece not so puzzling

Actually, it ain't that unusual that the Courier Journal would do a substantive piece on global warming.  Back in the day (Ok... way back in the day, about 30 years ago) the CJ was owned by the left-leaning Bingham family and considered one of the top 10 newspapers in the country.  But family squabbles precipitated a sellout to Gannett (publisher of USA Today), and you can just imagine where the paper went from there.  Still, many serious writers stayed on and the editorial staff still leans left.  And for the record, Louisville itself has a fairly substantial progressive community.
