China's emerging energy policy

Posted by praktike (Guest Contributor) at 8:06 AM on 26 Apr 2005

A pseudonymous guest author on Winds of Change looks at China's quest for oil, its tentative relationship with Russia, and the potential for friction between those powers and the United States.

Meanwhile, Jim, a retired engineer who writes on energy topics, has a good post about China's growing realization that it needs to broaden its approach beyond searching for imported oil.

Things are really changing fast

I just hope the Chinese can resist the urge to attack other countries as a part of their energy policy, as we are now doing.

The U.S. Set A Bad Example

China has already moved very far in the wrong direction, banning bicycles in cities where they get in the way of cars, and planning on getting hundreds of millions of its citizens into autos in the near future.

To the extent that Americans had anything to say about this, WE set the bad example that the Chinese are now following.  Those who live in the U.S. and support roads or driving are part of the reason China is following the U.S. down the path of planetary destruction.
