Make us laugh!

Heard the one about the eco-mag looking for jokes?

Posted by Katharine Wroth at 4:44 PM on 31 Oct 2005

A couple of weeks ago, we asked you for green knock-knock jokes. We got some creative replies, but we know there are more yuks to be had!

So we proudly present the new, improved Great Green Grist Joke-Off. Anything's fair game now: guys walking into bars (ouch), priests changing light bulbs, organic chickens crossing the road. Or link to stuff you've seen: cartoons, gut-busting clips from the Daily Show, ridiculous headlines from your local paper. You name it, we'll guffaw at it. Or at least cluck our tongues softly and shake our heads in wonder.

So go on ... show us the funny! Because if we can't laugh, we'll cry. And nobody wants to see that again.

Hydro humor - two cartoons

Who said hydropower dams weren't funny?

"We got some creative replies"?

Obviously, the knock-knock jokes were extremely lame. Some weren't even knock-knock jokes. Heck, some weren't even jokes. Please, somebody post something funny. Hurry.

Walking the earth since 1956.
Ouch

OK, this plays to several of the worst stereotypes of the environmental movement, but it has stuck with me ever since I heard it a few years ago from a friend who ran a small land trust in northern California:

What's the difference between a developer and an environmentalist?

A developer is someone who wants to build a cabin in the woods; an environmentalist is someone who already has one.

Make us laugh.

When I was a kid growing up the funnies were always good but nothing cracked a rib more easily than printed mistakes in newspapers. My mother still has some of them saved in a binder somewhere. My two favourites to this day are: "Wanted: Barbed Wife" I'm guessing he probably already has one of those and was looking for "barbed wire" and the other was "wanted: electric wench" he either meant "winch" or he was just really, really hopeful. I've seen several books published with some really great misprinted material but those will always be classics to me.

Herman

Herman comic strip on pollution.

Not terribly funny, but how often are enviro issues addressed in the funnies???

Global Warming Breifing IPCC to Bush

Earlier this month someone uncovered this breifing from the IPCC (International Panel on Climate Change) prepared for George W. Bush.  This document shows how much the President knows and how close he has actually been communicating with the IPCC about climate change.
